Bob Fischer brings extensive military, industry and consulting experience to bear on government relations. He has a unique appreciation of Canada’s defence and security procurement environment. Bob has held senior government and industry positions directly responsible for major defence and aerospace procurements.
His military career culminated in his appointment as Senior Assistant Deputy Minister (Materiel). Prior to that he held a number of key positions within DND’s procurement system including 5 years as a Project Manager responsible for major Army vehicle acquisitions. Bob understands the process and the decision-making dynamics within DND.
As Vice President for Business Development and Government Relations at GD Canada, Bob effectively interfaced with political staff and senior government executives both in Canada and internationally. During his career at GD Canada he was an active contributor to CADSI policy development.
As a consultant, he specializes in providing strategic advice to international firms pursuing defence and security opportunities in Canada. In the past two years, he has provided multi-year communications advice to Nexter Systems (France) to help them qualify to bid on DND’s TAPV and CCV programmes. CADSI has also retained his services to carry out a study of Canada’s Defence and Security industrial capabilities.
Fluently bilingual, Bob is a past President of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) and Chairman of the Canadian NATO Industry Advisory Group (NIAG). He serves on the Board of Directors of Bionic Power, a Canadian technology company.
